UPDATE: Pine Bush High School Lockdown Today – According to New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel, reports of an active shooter at Pine Bush High School on Wednesday afternoon were proven to be baseless. According to Nevel, the campus was gradually opened up after the school had been shut down for about three hours and an hour over the scheduled dismissing time. No staff members or students were hurt in the incident.
According to Nevel, the Crawford Police Department received a call early on Wednesday reporting a shooter at the high school; however, officers later discovered the caller was making up the situation. According to Nevel, the police are not currently disclosing information about the caller. Parents, guardians, and buses were still scurrying to get kids out of the school as of 3 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Nevel.
In a statement Nevel stated that “There is no threat to the community. Parents don’t need to be concerned. All of the kids are being released and are safe.” Nevel also added that “The school went into lockdown, and we followed standard operating procedure,” Nevel said. “Kids were locked in rooms while a systematic search was done to make sure there was no validity to this threat, and right now it turns out to be unfounded.” Obviously concerned parents want to be with their kids, and they want to make sure their kids are safe and to hug them,” Nevel said. “Even when these shooter things are unfounded, the initial fear of any parent is just immediate panic.”
