On February 16, a boy, 15, and his 17-year-old sister were killed in a fatal car accident on Highway 14 between Powell and Lovell.
They were both pronounced dead at the scene of the fatal accident. Report says the road was slick with ice and snow, causing a loss of control that slid them into the oncoming lane, colliding with another vehicle.
In the wake of this tragedy, the community has rallied to assist the Hackenberg family. Tiffany Taylor Anderson has set up a Facebook auction where individuals may contribute items for other people to bid on. To aid with costs, all proceeds will be donated to the Hackenberg family.

This is the latest in a long line of tragedies for the Hackenberg family. Their father died four years before they were born, leaving their mother to raise them alone while working as a teacher at Lovell Middle School.
After the auction ends on March 13, instructions will be given for the transactions to be completed so that the family receives all of the donations.
Ordinance Marine Richard Perreault started a GoFundMe to help pay for the siblings’ brother, LCpl Hackenberg’s, travel expenses. So far, the fundraiser has raised more than $2,000, more than doubling its original goal.
It’s heartening to see so much support for the family in the aftermath of such awful loss. There’s still time to donate to either of these fundraising campaigns.
