Pearry Teo Death – Witchville (film) director Pearry Reginald Teo Zhang Pingli commonly known as Pearry Teo has passed away unexpectedly. Singaporean filmmaker Pearry Teo was announced dead on Thursday night, the 9th of March 2023. He died in Los Angeles, California at the age of 44. He was eccentric, brilliant, fun, and talented. Teo was considered the first Singaporean movie director to make a Hollywood film. No cause of death was reported.
Who was Pearry Teo?
Teo was born on July 23, 1978, in Singapore. He began his career as a school dropout, making odd horror films using borrowed cameras. His debut film, Liberata Me, earned the best horror film award at the New York International Film Festival. Shortly after, his subsequent films garnered him prizes, leading to his first feature picture deal, The Gene Generation. Teo, a fashion design dropout, attended school in Melbourne, Australia before moving to the United States to seek a career in filmmaking.
His fans are largely from the underground subculture, who are drawn to him because of his unique but dark aesthetic style. Bai Ling and Faye Dunaway star in the film The Gene Generation. On January 27, 2009, the film was made available on DVD. Teo shot NBC / Universal’s (Syfy) debut production in China, Witchville, in August 2009, starring Luke Goss, MyAnna Buring, and Sarah Douglas.
The film was first shown on SciFi Channel in the United States on May 22, 2010. Teo teamed with author Christine Converse on Bedlam Tales in 2013, a fictitious story of famed reporter Nellie Bly’s stint in a mental institution in the 1920s. The novel blends the fictitious worlds of Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz in a horror genre.
