Payton Higgins Death – Bellevue University was saddened to learn of the passing of former baseball student-athlete Payton Higgins. Payton Higgins was announced dead on Sunday, June 4, 2023, after battling cancer. He died at the young age of 25. “Cancer is a beast and seriously SUCKS!!! My heart breaks for you all and is with you at this time. Prayers for peace and comfort.” Thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this difficult time.

Who was Payton Higgins?
Payton played at Bellevue from 2020-22 and was a two-year starter for the Bruins. He was a career .280 hitter, seeing time in both the outfield and as the assigned hitter. After being diagnosed with lung cancer in the fall of 2021, Payton fought splendidly to create a return to the diamond on the senior end of the week (Apr. 15-16, 2022) where he showed up in all four games as the Bruins swept Presentation.
For his endeavours, he earned both the North Star Athletic Association and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Player of the Week awards. Payton earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and earned NSAA Scholar-Athlete honours in all three of his long time at BU whereas collecting Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete acknowledgement in both the 2020-21 and 2021-22. He was such a great young man.

He is survived by his wife, Jordan, parents Shawn and Natalie, and siblings, Braxton, Camry, Jayson, and Preston.
