Otis Redding III, Singer and guitarist died of cancer in Macon, Georgia at age 59

Otis Redding III Death – 59-year-old Otis Redding III, the son of the famous soul singer from the 1960s and the namesake of the son has died. He passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 in Macon, Georgia. Otis Redding III was a singer and guitarist who built a name for himself before his death. According to his sister, Karla Redding-Andrews who revealed in a statement that the cause of his death was cancer. Karla posted about it on the Facebook page of the Otis Redding Foundation, which is the family’s charitable organization.

About Otis Redding III

When Mr. Redding’s father and several members of his band were killed in a plane crash on December 10, 1967, outside of Madison, Wisconsin, Mr. Redding was only three years old at the time. Otis Redding III, together with his brother Dexter and a cousin named Mark Lockett, went on to establish the funk band known as the Reddings in the 1980s. The band released six albums during that time period. Otis was the band’s guitarist; Dexter, who is still alive, played bass and was in charge of the singing; Mr. Lockett was the keyboard player.

In 1980, the band achieved some measure of success on the Billboard charts, with their single “Remote Control” peaking at No. 6 on the Hot Soul Singles list and No. 89 on the Hot 100. In 1988, the final album released by the band was simply titled “The Reddings,” and it peaked at position No. 88 on the Billboard album chart. The album featured the successful single “Call the Law.”

Otis Redding III remained active in the music industry despite the fact that his brothers were never able to approach the level of success that their father had achieved. Mr. Redding got comfortable singing “(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay” and other songs made famous by his father after the soul singer Eddie Floyd hired him as guitarist for a European tour, he told WCSH-TV in Portland, Maine in 2018. Mr. Redding’s father was Otis Redding, who was known as “the Godfather of Soul.”

On December 17th, 1963 in the city of Macon, Otis Redding III was born. Zelma Atwood was his mother when he was born. In his later years, he was active in the foundation that his family established, helping to create music camps for youngsters to attend over the summer.

In addition to that, he was the president of the board of directors for the local chapter of Meals on Wheels. In addition to his sister Ms. Redding-Andrews and his brother, Mr. Redding’s other sister, Demetria Redding, is among those who have survived his passing. Condolences are been to the family members of the 59-year-old singer and guitarist, Otis Redding III.
