Further information
Edgar Julian Delgado, 24, the suspect, and Omar Reyes Garcia, 32, the victim, are said to have met at a casino bar around 2:00 in the morning and spent several hours together afterward, according to Sheriff Dan Coverly. The security footage from the casino shows that the two of them got into an argument, and then shortly after 8:00 in the morning, Delgado pulled out a gun and shot Reyes Garcia. After the shooting that occurred in Las Vegas on October 1, law enforcement in Nevada has taken a different approach to dealing with shootings that occur inside casinos. For example, this incident was initially reported as an active shooter situation. According to Coverly, the number of law enforcement personnel that responded ranged between 50 and 100. Coverly stated that in the end, this would not be deemed an active shooter but rather just a homicide.
“We could consider this to be just a homicide,” he added. “Even if the response appears to be excessive and excessively overwhelming, that’s okay.” The process involves searching the casino from top to bottom for additional potential victims as well as suspects. This includes looking on the roof. The suspect was located with the assistance of CCTV footage from Hard Rock. On U.S. 50 close to Sierra at Tahoe, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop and placed Delgado and Savannah Racquel Tautaupale, 26, under arrest, according to Coverly. Both of them were inside the vehicle at the time of the stop. Both Delgado and Tautaupale were taken into custody, with Delgado being charged with open murder and Tautaupale with driving under the influence.
