Oliver Crain Death – A Logansport Community High School Alumnus passed away yesterday in a deadly single-vehicle crash involving Tuesday night. Crain died after his pickup struck a tree and overturned on the South East River Road near County Road 325 East, according to the Cass County Indiana Sheriff’s Department. On Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at approximately 11:14 p.m., Cass County Central Dispatch received a call of a single-vehicle crash on the South East River Road near County Road 325 East.
Preliminary investigations determined that a pickup truck had traveled off the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. Investigations by Deputy Michael Thomison found a 1998 Chevrolet S10 Pickup Truck had driven off the north side of the roadway and struck a tree before rolling over. The driver and registered owner of the Chevrolet, 24-year-old Oliver Cain, of Logansport, IN had to be extricated from the vehicle by the fire personnel before he was transported by the Cass County Emergency Medical Services to the helipad at Logansport Memorial Hospital to meet with an ambulance for transport to a trauma center.
Oliver Crain worked at Core Mechanical Services, Inc. Following the incident, a friend wrote; “Oh Oliver, where do I even start? We had such a great time together. You were such a great guy. Your humor was my favorite, always making me laugh and smile. I was holding on to the day that we hopefully could continue where we left off after we both decided to figure things out ourselves but that’s not possible and I will forever be grateful for the 4 months we did have together. “Forever in my heart, Oliver Ianelly Crain.”
Cain was pronounced deceased before the medical flight. A passenger in the pickup 21-year-old Bryant Landis, of Logansport, IN, refused medical treatment at the scene. Seatbelts were not utilized by either the driver or the passenger in this crash. Alcohol is also believed to be a factor in this incident. Deputies responded to the crash along with the Walton Fire Department, Cass County Fire District #1, Indiana State Police, and Cass County Emergency Medical Services. The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 574-753-7800
