Death: Long-Time President Thomas Tredway Dies At 86 After A Brief Illness – Augustana College mourns the death of long-time president Thomas Tredway, who died on April 10 at the age of 86. Tredway died following a brief illness, according to a statement released by current Augustana President Steven Bahls on Monday.
He served as the college’s seventh president for 28 years before retiring in 2003. Prior to becoming president, Tredway joined the faculty in 1964 and served as vice president of academic affairs and dean.
According to wqad.com, Augustana’s new library was dubbed ‘Thomas Tredway Library’ after he retired. He is credited with extending the college’s endowment fund, adding new facilities, increasing the number of academic members, and boosting foreign studies programs.
“Those who hold Augustana dear will always remember his tremendous work to build up the faculty and promote the academic program during a moment of considerable transformation in higher education,” Bahls said. Tredway, according to Bahls, was always there for him, especially in the early years of his presidency, providing context and advice.
