Obituary: Jackie’s Place owner Jackie is remembered as a loving father and grandfather

Kenneth “Ken” Kragt, co-owner of Jackie’s Place in Holland, has been greeting clients with a smile for the past three decades. Kragt, 88, died on March 21, leaving a bereaved community. “He was a really, really, really good man,” Jenn Ference, his granddaughter, said. “He was the epitome of a spouse, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He just genuinely cared about everyone.”

According to yahoo.com, Kragt is a Holland native who graduated from Holland Christian High School and served in the army. Jackie’s Place wasn’t his first business venture; he worked in the business office at Vogelzang Hardware and Appliance and as the business manager at Dumez Department Store for numerous years.

“He was a knucklehead, so that was entertaining,” Ference said. “He enjoyed playing cards, socializing with others, and simply having a good time. In the restaurant, he and my father took great pride. Everyone, including the community, felt like they were part of a family.”

When he wasn’t busy at the restaurant, Kragt was active in serving the churches he belonged to throughout the years. He loved sports, especially the Detroit Lions and the Michigan State Spartans.
