Obituary – John Kochanek Has Died At Age 52, Cause Of Death
John A. Kochanek, age 52, passed away on April 4, 2022. He was born December 4, 1969, in Detroit, Michigan son of Daniel and Lorraine Kochanek. On July 10, 1993, John was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Katherine Sebastian. Their marriage spanned nearly 30 years and was blessed with two children. John was the owner and operator of Carbon Tool & Manufacturing, Inc.
He was a boat captain, drone pilot, snowmobiler, jet skier, and enjoyed the occasional tall Captain & Diet (no lime). He coached his son in baseball and his daughter in volleyball and was affectionately known as “Coach K”. John enjoyed visiting his family cabin on Secord Lake in Gladwin. He was a huge animal lover, especially cats. John will be remembered for many things, but most of all, he will be remembered for being a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Katherine; his loving children: John (Rachel Azure) Kochanek, and Mia Kochanek; his parents, Daniel and Lorraine Kochanek; his siblings: Jeff (Julie) Kochanek, Jodi (David) Williamsen; his brother-in-law, Alexander (Sandra) Sebastian; his mother-in-law, Sallyann Sebastian; and his nieces and nephews: Isabel, Sophie, Tessa, Jude, Matthew (Meghan), Rebecca, Nick (Hannah), Christopher (Stephanie), Alex (Carolyn), Sam, and John Paul.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Alexander Sebastian. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 12 from 1:00 PM-8:00 PM at PHILLIPS FUNERAL HOME, 122 West Lake Street, South Lyon. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 13, at 12:00 PM with final visitation beginning at 11:15 AM at First United Methodist Church of South Lyon, 640 S. Lafayette, South Lyon. John will be laid to rest in United Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Feral Kitty Trappers TNR or American Stroke Foundation.
