Obituary: A racer killed in a weekend crash is remembered by the snowmobile community – A respected rider in Vermont’s racing scene is being memorialized after a snowmobiler crashed during a race in Pomfret on Saturday. The crash killed Jim Darrow, 56, of Monreau, New York.
It happened around 2:30 p.m. at the Suicide Six ski slope, according to police. Darrow allegedly collided with a tree, suffered fatal injuries, and was pronounced dead at the site.
Saturday’s event, according to the Suicide Six Recreation Area Facebook page, was head-to-head drag racing. Darrow was one of Rock The Hills’ long-time racers, according to a Facebook post, and the fatal tragedy occurred while he was returning down the hill after a winning run. In his honor, racing continued on Sunday.
