Christian Kilburg Cause of Death, There is no obituary available yet – According to authorities, a Cleveland firefighter was arrested and charged with voluntary manslaughter on Thursday after allegedly killing his roommate at their Willoughby residence.
As reported by cleveland.com, Kevin McCarthy, 25, reported to the Willoughby Authorities Department around 10:15 p.m. that he had shot his roommate, Christian Kilburg, 25, by accident, police said. The incident took happened on Grove Avenue at the Willogrove Apartments.
According to police and court documents, Kilburg died at the scene of a gunshot wound to the head. McCarthy testified to police that he and Kilburg were “drawing weapons” on each other on a couch in records filed Monday in Willoughby Municipal Court.
McCarthy was arrested and escorted to the Willoughby Police Department to be interrogated. According to police, the crime scene section of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, as well as investigators from the Lake County prosecutor’s office and the Lake County coroner’s office, assisted in the investigation of the apartment.
McCarthy appeared in court for the first time on Monday, and a preliminary hearing is set for Thursday. On a $50,000 bond, he is free to go.
Voluntary manslaughter is a felony of the first degree. McCarthy’s attorney, Richard Perez, was contacted by Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer.
McCarthy has also been suspended without pay by the Cleveland Division of Fire, awaiting the conclusion of the judicial procedures, according to police.
In 2021, McCarthy was employed by the division. The case is still being investigated.
