According to Trooper Lynnea Crane of the New York State Police, no charges have been filed in connection with the incident, and investigations to get to the bottom of what caused the collision are still in progress. Crane did not consider impairment to be a likely contributing factor; rather, he emphatically emphasized the importance of driving with extreme caution and vigilance, particularly in situations where there are roadside personnel or other vehicles that have become stuck nearby.
It is imperative that you slow down and move over if you come across a car parked on the side of the road, regardless of whether it is a worker or any other individual, as stated by Crane. We are always reminding individuals to not only pay attention but also to put down their phones and pay attention to their surroundings. Without a doubt, this is a tragedy, and if everyone had been paying attention and taking things more slowly, it could have been possible to prevent it from happening.
As a result of the incident, eastbound traffic on the Thruway has been rerouted at LeRoy’s Exit 47, and it is currently closed until Henrietta’s Exit 46.
Governor Kathy Hochul expressed her condolences and confirmed the details of the tragedy in a statement that was issued by the state government. “An employee of the Thruway Authority lost his life earlier today while establishing a work zone on the I-90 in Henrietta.” She claimed that as a result of the same incident, another individual sustained injuries and is still in serious condition.
“We are heartbroken over this senseless death, praying for the recovery of the injured worker, and grateful to first responders who sprang into action to support their fellow public servants,” the statement read. This tragic event serves as a reminder that safe driving is a skill that may save lives, and that all residents of New York should remain vigilant, slow down, and move over when approaching a work zone or a vehicle that has stopped.
