Nkululeko Mkhize Death – Famous KwaZulu-Natal businessman, Nkululeko Mkhize, has been identified as one of the suspects killed following the Tuesday morning murder of five at Zimbali estate, North of Durban. Law enforcement agencies say at least five people were shot dead at Richards Bay CBD parking lot on Tuesday, September 2-, 2023. Police launched a manhunt for at least five suspects in connection to the fatal shooting of five individuals at a shopping center’s parking lot in Richards Bay CBD on Tuesday morning.
Preliminary investigations determined that at least four suspects alighted from a vehicle and opened fire at the victims. Four victims were certified dead at the scene whilst the fifth one succumbed to gunshot wounds at a local clinic. The suspects reportedly fled the scene of the crime in a Blue VW Polo. The motive of the shooting has not been established although drug-related war could not be ruled out. On Wednesday, it was determined that famous Richards Bay businessman Nkululeko Mkhize and his gangs were responsible for the massacre.
The deadly incident happened at Estate Zimbali, north of Durban. When the National Intervention Unit of the South African Police Service raided the estate looking for him, it appeared that he was killed in a gun battle. Mkhize was accused of having ties to a drug gang. On Wednesday, a slaughter took place at Mkhize’s home in Ballito Estate. In 2021, Mkhize made headlines when he gave an R1.5 million cash gift during a traditional bridal shower (also known as an “indicia”) in Ulundi.
We are aware that one of our residents was involved in a legal matter. “It’s a relief that our estate is now free from such elements,” said Francois Schoeman, CEO of Ballito Estate, after the event. Police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said that six firearms and more than a thousand rounds of ammunition were found at the scene. Using information gathered from several sources, our police found the people we believe to be responsible for the murders in Richards Bay on Tuesday. As soon as they stepped foot inside the house, they were met with gunshots from the intruders. After the police replied, two suspects, including Mkhize, were killed. A probe has been requested from the IPID, or Independent Police Investigative Directorate. The search for any new suspects continues.
