D’Tigress, Nigeria’s senior female basketball team, upset World No. 5 France in a FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifier for 2022.
On Friday, February 11, 2022, the Nigerian squad came back from a first-quarter deficit to defeat France 67-65 in a World Cup qualification game. D’Tigress were behind 11-28 in the first quarter, but won 16-10 in the second.
Victoria Macaulay of Galatasaray led Nigeria in scoring with 19 points, and the squad had a 51 percent -44 percent and 35 percent -32 percent advantage in two-pointers and three-pointers, respectively.
Nigeria is now in second place on the standings with 3 points and a -12 game point deficit.
D’Tigress will now face Mali, another African team, in their final group round match on Saturday, February 12, 2022. With a win over Mali, D’Tigress will be guaranteed a spot in the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Australia later this year.
