Nicolas Nuno Death – 16-year-old Nicolas Nuno, a Fordham Preparatory School student passed away in a deadly accident involving the Metro-North train in the Bronx Monday. Rev. Christopher J. Devron, SJ, the president of Fordham Preparatory School, stated the incident on Tuesday in the late afternoon. The statement continued, “Following the unexpected and tragic loss of a member of our sophomore class that occurred yesterday evening, the entire Fordham Prep community has been left in a state of deep shock and sadness.” We have told the young man’s family, with whom we are in daily contact, that our thoughts, prayers, and support are with them during this trying time.

The tragic incident happened at approximately 3:30 p.m. when they were struck by a northbound train moving oppositely, according to MTA spokesperson Meredith Daniels. The train was passing through the Botanical Garden station, but it wasn’t planned for it to stop there. It appeared as though the child had leaped in front of the train, according to law enforcement officials. Law enforcement agencies did not immediately disclose if fatal crash was a suicide or a mistake.

On Monday afternoon, Fordham residents were informed of Metro-North delays because of police action at the Botanical Garden station. This conduct most likely had something to do with the preceding occurrence. John Carroll, the associate vice president of Fordham University’s Department of Public Safety, has admitted that he did not know the victim was a Fordham Prep student when he wrote the email. The law enforcement agencies involved in this incident has not released further details.
