What was the cause of death of Nickolas Stambaugh, 42, of Jacksonville? The Jacksonville man whose body was discovered dead in his vehicle on Wednesday just off Interstate 55 in Springfield has been identified by the Sangamon County coroner.
According to the Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon, the body of Nickolas Stambaugh, a 42-year-old resident of Jacksonville, was discovered on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. in his vehicle near Lost Bridge Trail on the extreme eastern side of Springfield. The man’s vehicle had gone off the side of Interstate 55.
An autopsy revealed that the victim had suffered only minor blunt-force trauma as a result of the crash; however, it also revealed significant progression of a natural disease. According to Allmon, the cause of death will not be determined until further research is conducted.
Earlier Report: On Wednesday morning, the body of a man who was identified as being from Jacksonville was discovered inside his vehicle. According to Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon, the body of a man who was 42 years old was discovered close to the Lost Bridge Trail, which is close to Interstate 55. At 8:45 in the morning, Allmon arrived at the scene and declared the man to be deceased.
On Thursday, the medical examiner will conduct an autopsy on the deceased. Both the State Police and the Sangamon County Coroner are currently conducting their own separate investigations into the incident.
