Barnegat man severely hurt following two-car collision on Route 72 – In an accident that happened on Route 72, a Barnegat man was injured on Saturday, July 9th, 2022. The accident happened at about 3:35 p.m. after a two-vehicle collision on Route 72 close to the intersection with Neptune Drive. The vehicle 2015 Nissan Altima and a 2007 Dodge Caliber. The driver of the 2007 Dodge Caliber was identified as 90-year-old William Foster Sr., of Barnegat. 70-year-old Gerald Fournier was identified as the driver of Nissan Altima.
According patch.com, as Fournier of South Carolina, was approaching the crossing on Route 72 in a 2015 Nissan Altima, the 2007 Dodge Caliber crashed into it. Foster was driving east on Route 72 when she made a left turn in the direction of Neptune in front of Fournier’s car as reported by the police. Foster needed to be evacuated to the Atlantic City Trauma Center and is currently in critical condition. Fournier was brought to Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment after suffering moderate injuries from the collision.
A passenger in Fournier’s vehicle sustained a critical wrist fracture and was also rushed to the hospital as stated by the authorities. The victim had to be flown to the Atlantic City Trauma Center, according to Stafford Township police. The condition of the victim is unknown and the identity of the victim was not released. During the investigation, traffic was redirected around the accident area. The accident damaged the cars that were involved in the accident. At this time, no arrest or charges have been made by the officials.
The officials are still looking into the incident for more information. Officer Justin Pascale of the Traffic Safety Unit is looking into the crash.
