Nathaniel Laster Death – On the evening of Tuesday, June 20th, 2023, a resident of the city who was 26 years old was shot and killed on the porch of his home in the southwest. At 12:18 in the morning, it was determined that Nathaniel Laster had passed away in the emergency room at Aultman Hospital. The death was confirmed by the Stark County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday. At approximately 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday, police responded to a home in the 500 block of Fifth Street SW after receiving a report of gunfire, according to Lt. Nick Antonides of the Massillon Police Department.
What was Nathaniel Laster’s cause of death?
According to him, police officers spotted a man bleeding from the chest on the front porch of the house and immediately began CPR on him until emergency medical services came. Nathaniel was taken by emergency services personnel from Massillon to Aultman Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead on Wednesday. Antonides said police continue to investigate. He stated that a number of witnesses claimed to have heard between six and eight gunshots.
Antonides reported that there was one gunshot wound to Laster’s upper body, and he is currently awaiting additional information on other injuries from the coroner. According to what he indicated, investigations are still being conducted into almost everything. Several witnesses were interrogated. Antonides did not provide any information regarding a possible suspect or person of interest in relation to the shooting.

According to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), they are looking into an incident in which Canton, Ohio, police shot and killed a suspect overnight. On June 7, 2023, at around 10:07 p.m., Canton police claim they were called to a disturbance at 311 25th Street Southwest. Police officers were “fired upon” as they arrived at the site, according to Canton Police Chief John Gabbard, and they “returned fire, wounding the suspect.”
The suspect was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds and passed away. Jeffrey Neff, 41, has already been named as the suspect.
