Dixie Highway at around 3 p.m. The deceased victim has been identified as 23-year-old Nathaniel Baez, who was first expected to survive his wounds but eventually died.
According to the police, it all started with a fight between two groups of three persons each. Someone pulled out a gun and started shooting during the scuffle. One of the fight’s participants was shot and killed. A second victim, who police say was injured by a stray bullet, was a civilian in the area. According to Alvaro Zabaleta, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, two young children were in the business at the time of the shooting.
Zabaleta explained that the incident took place while the store was open and in a busy area near the front of the establishment. As the witness put it, “It’s unfortunate that a customer who was not involved in this incident was struck, this could have been much more tragic.” According to Zabaleta, police arrived and arrested one of the six combatants. He claimed that four further suspects had escaped. Several fire trucks from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue were also parked nearby.
According to Zabaleta, five persons were treated for minor injuries sustained while fleeing the shooting and then sent on their way. According to Zabaleta, a woman who had sustained a head injury while attempting to flee also presented herself for medical care at a nearby hospital. Zabaleta stated that police are still looking for the other four individuals involved in the altercation and shooting by analyzing surveillance footage and continuing their investigation, but that they need the public’s assistance in doing so.
