Murder; Ellis Smith Ottawa high school student fatally stabbed in Nepean: Ibrahim Ocal, 18, has been charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death of Ellis Smith, 15, which occurred on May 2 in the 100 block of Constellation Drive. The investigation was conducted by the Homicide Unit of the Ottawa Police Services (OPS).
The charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon were initially brought against Ocal by the Criminal Investigations Section, according to the news release issued by the Office of Public Safety. In light of the fact that Smith passed away on May 4 due to his injuries, Ocal is now being charged with first-degree murder. The youngster from Sir Guy Carleton Secondary School reportedly underwent emergency heart surgery, as stated by a GoFundMe campaign that was created to support Smith’s family by providing financial assistance.
“Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries after two agonizing days in the intensive care unit, and despite all of the incredible care he received,” the note distributed by the campaign says. On Saturday, May 4th, a lovely sunny day, he passed away quietly accompanied by his parents, Shane and Karen, sister Fay, and other members of his immediate and extended family. It states that donations will assist in covering the costs of counseling, burial fees, and other expenditures incurred by the family.
A court appearance by Ocal is set to take place on May 8th. After receiving treatment for stab wounds, a student named Smith was taken to the hospital just after noon on May 2. Paramedics rendered him medical attention. At the same time as the inquiry was still ongoing, there was a “significant” police presence in the vicinity.
The OCDSB stated that at the time, the school was placed in a safety mode known as Shelter in Place, which meant that entry to the school was placed under restriction. The Ottawa Police Services (OPS) said on May 3 that they had charged a male citizen who was 18 years old in connection with the incident. According to OCDSB, the individual in question is not a student at the institution.
