**Krisalyn Thomas and Joseph Chevis died in single-car crash in St. Landry Parish**

Troopers with the Louisiana State Police say that a single-car accident in St. Landry Parish on Friday night killed two people. On Thursday, July 8, around 10:30 p.m., Troopers learned about an crash on Louisiana Highway 182 near Nap Lane. The authorities said Krisalyn Thomas, who was 19 years old, and Joseph Chevis, who was 56 years old, both died in the accident. LSP says that the two were moving on LA 182 in a 1998 Dodge pickup. Chevis is said to have gone off the road.

The truck hit a tree and started to spin around before landing on its roof. Both Chevis and Krisalyn Thomas, who was riding with him, were not wearing seatbelts at the time. The Coroner’s Office for St. Landry Parish said that Chevis was dead at the scene. Thomas was in critical condition when she was taken to a nearby hospital, but she died from her injuries. Authorities think that speed was a factor in the crash, but they don’t know if the driver was drunk or not. Standard toxicology samples were taken for testing, and the cause of this crash is still being looked into.
