It was stated that the six people inside the Tesla Model 3 ranged in age from 17 to 22. Lt. Anthony Russo of the police informed ABC7 that three of them were ejected during the incident.
According to the lieutenant, the driver and two passengers were declared deceased at the site. With severe injuries, the survivors were taken to a hospital and given a stable condition rating. A Tesla is seen speeding on surveillance footage that Eyewitness News was able to obtain before it crashes and explodes violently. The automobile was ripped apart by the impact.
The intersection was closed following the incident and reopened after a power line was collapsed. Later in the day, friends who were crushed by the loss gathered at the crash scene. Stefan Michael Pfeiffer has been recognized as one of the deceased victims. The 20-year-old attended Pasadena City College as a student.
According to coworkers, Esrom Fessemaye and the driver, Mohed Samuel, age 22, also perished. In addition to another guy and woman, Samuel’s younger sister also suffered significant injuries. According to Russo, speed played a role in the incident, and the impact severely damaged the building. When the driver ran a red light and lost control of the Tesla, according to the police, they were traveling at least double the speed limit.
According to Russo, the automobile flew into the air after hitting a curb. After that, the Tesla collided with a building, a power pole, and a city light pole. None of the four persons who seemed to be in the backseat were buckled up, according to investigators. Investigators are also trying to find out how quickly the Tesla was traveling and whether Autopilot was activated at the moment of the collision. Additionally, an inquiry will ascertain whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
