One of the members of a fire department in Minnesota has been killed in a gunfight over the weekend, and the department is in sorrow, according to the police.
An official from the City of Eden Prairie stated in a statement on their Facebook page that Eden Prairie Firefighter Joseph C. Johns “died tragically” when he was off duty on Sunday morning.
“He was a valued and important member of the EPFD family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him,” the city stated in a message on its social media accounts. “The Eagan Fire Department is working with the EPFD to coordinate all of the actions that are being made to commemorate Joseph and provide assistance for his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joseph’s family as well as every member of his fire service family.
According to the statement that was made on the city’s Facebook page, Johns started his career in the fire service on September 2, 2015, in Eden Prairie, as a duty-crew firefighter. As the story continued, he also worked with the Eagan Fire Department as a firefighter for the entirety of his career, beginning on January 13, 2020.
Investigators are looking into a shooting that occurred in a parking lot. At approximately 12:40 in the morning, officers from the Minneapolis Police Department discovered a man in his forties who was suffering from injuries that were considered to be life-threatening, according to a press release issued by the department.
A man was taken to a hospital by emergency personnel, but he did not survive his stay there, according to the police.
It has been reported by the department that a group of individuals who were gathered in a parking lot were the target of gunfire from an unknown individual. At that point, the group opened fire, according to the authorities.
