Mike Henderson Death – 69-year-old American singer-songwriter and the SteelDriver founder, Mike Henderson passed away. He died on Friday, September 22, 2023. The song “Powerful Stuff” was written by Henderson for The Snakes, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds recorded it in 1988 for the movie’s soundtrack. Henderson became a member of the writing staff of EMI in the years that followed. His songs have been covered by a wide variety of singers, including the Dixie Chicks, Trisha Yearwood, Gary Allan, and Patty Loveless, to name just a few.
About Mike Henderson
In 1981, in the state of Missouri, Mike Henderson was already a member of the blues band the Bel Airs when the band initially joined together. In 1984, they released an album under the name Need Me a Car on the label Blind Pig Records. In the year 1985, Henderson made the decision to part ways with the band and move to Nashville. The next year, he joined The Roosters, a roots rock band, as a part of the band’s lineup.In addition to that, he was a member of a side project known as The Kingsnakes.
Beginning in July of 1986, The Kingsnakes began making appearances at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville on a consistent basis. Following their signing with Curb Records, the band changed their name to simply “The Snakes.” A record titled The Snakes was issued by Curb in the year 1989.
The talented slide guitarist, Henderson, was able to find work in Music City thanks to his abilities. Albums by Emmylou Harris, John Hiatt, Joy Lynn White, and Kelly Willis are only some of the artists whose work he has contributed to. Henderson was a member of Mark Knopfler’s touring party during the Sailing to Philadelphia Tour in 2001. In the year 2008, Henderson became one of the band’s founding members of the bluegrass group The SteelDrivers.
In addition to that, he was a member of the band and played the mandolin, resophonic guitar, and harmonica. He also helped to the writing of some of the songs. The SteelDrivers’ album Reckless was released in 2010, and it was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Bluegrass Album at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in 2011.
According to Henderson resigned from The SteelDrivers in the winter of 2011. Adele included a rendition of Henderson’s song “If It Hadn’t Been for Love” on the live concert DVD she released in 2011 titled Adele: Live at the Royal Albert Hall. The performances of Mike Henderson and the Mike Henderson Band at Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe were maintained on a consistent basis. Mike Henderson passed away on September 22, 2023, when he had reached the age of 69.
