At a Narcotics Anonymous meeting in Edgewater on Monday, August 8, 2022, a hostage scenario that developed into a double homicide-suicide left three people dead, according to authorities. In the 500 block of North Ridgewood Avenue, close to New Smyrna Beach, an armed suspect, identified as 49-year-old Quinton Francis Hunter, held a woman hostage, according to Edgewater police.
At approximately seven o’clock in the evening, according to police, they received word that a man had been shot at NGO Bridge the Gap and a lady was being held, hostage. Erica Hoffman, 33, and Ian Greenfield, 59, were the two named by the authorities. Police say the other conference attendees fled the scene unharmed. As the hostage scenario persisted, police said that roughly 20 people managed to flee the conference. Edgewater police stated during the update that they suspect the incident was domestic in nature.
Hoffman’s ex-boyfriend was the suspect, according to the police, who also thought she had “established a new relationship” with Greenfield. Authorities made an unsuccessful attempt to bargain with the hostage-taker. After entering the structure, a SWAT team discovered three bodies inside, including the suspect, according to the police. Investigators claim that Greenfield and Hoffman had evident gunshot wounds and lacerations when they were discovered. Investigators stated that Hunter looked to have shot and killed himself.
