Death: After a collision on the Northway, a high school student died – According to State Police and the Guilderland school system, a Guilderland High School senior died and a Glens Falls man was injured in an early Sunday morning crash on the Northway.
According to timesunion.com, State Police, Megi Hamza, 18, of Guilderland, died from her injuries when her car got immobilized in the middle northbound lane just south of the Twin Bridges and was struck from behind by another vehicle soon before 5 a.m.
Around 4:46 a.m., state police arrived on the scene. So far, their investigation has shown that Hamza was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla northbound when the vehicle became disabled in the three-lane road’s center lane. With its danger lights on, a tractor-trailer had pulled up alongside Hamza.
In response to the tractor-trailer, a third car, a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 72-year-old Glens Falls man and traveling in the right northbound lane, pulled into the middle lane. The driver failed to notice Hamza’s vehicle, which was stopped in the center lane and rear-ended it.
