Death 2 Adults, Child Killed in Spartanburg County Car Accident – According to Chief David Green of the Wellford Police Department, a crash in the Upstate claimed the lives of two adults and a child on Tuesday evening. The two-vehicle crash happened on U.S. Highway 29 at Tucapau Road in Wellford, Green said. Green stated that the tragedy could have been avoided entirely.
According to wyff4.com, “It was a senseless death,” Green said, “that we feel was caused by speeding.” Speeding along Highway 29 has been on their radar for a while, according to Green. “We were in the process of forming a traffic enforcement task force.” This will expedite the timetable so that it is more noticeable on September 29. “I’m trying to get folks to slow down,” Green explained.
“It was dreadful to come upon and awful to realize how many families were affected,” resident Rebecca Martin said. According to Coroner Rusty Clevenger of the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office, Megan Jackson Barnett, 30, Briley Diann Barnett, 6, of Wellford, and Jackolane Mattison, 43, of Lyman, were killed in the crash.
According to Melissa Robinette of Spartanburg District Five Schools of Spartanburg County, Barnett worked as a teacher’s assistant at Wellford Academy of Science and Technology, and her daughter Briley was in first grade. Long-time residents Brian Jones and Wymond Wilkins are just two of the city council members who have seen this situation previously.
