Maurice Jamal was born in Madison, Wisconsin, to parents who both worked in the field of education: his father, Maurice Lee, was an author and university professor, while his mother, Mary Katherine Elliott, was an education resource specialist. Maurice attended Berkeley High School and graduated with his diploma. After graduating from high school, he continued his education at Morehouse College, where he majored in Political Science. He then transferred to San Francisco State University, where he got a degree in Film Production with an Emphasis in Directing.
He was able to demonstrate his production talents and talent on major network television shows as well as films that won academy awards thanks to his perseverance and hard work, which led to a consistent line of assignments. In a relatively short amount of time, he accumulated a vast and remarkable list of credits, the most notable of which being his work both in front of and behind the camera on the critically acclaimed show “Chappelle Show.”

In 2005, he penned, directed, and starred in the gay and lesbian romantic comedy “The Ski Trip,” which was an independent production. The story of “The Ski Trip” was both heartfelt and hilarious. It followed a group of young homosexual men from New York City as they embarked on an exciting and eventful winter holiday. Because of its broad appeal among members of the homosexual, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community, the movie was responsible for putting Jamal on the map.
His second picture, “Dirty Laundry,” was released in 2007 and was an enormous commercial and critical success. GLO TV was established in 2010 by Maurice Jamal, who also served as the company’s President from 2010 until 2013. This groundbreaking network was the first Urban LGBT TV Network in the United States and featured a broad slate of programming, including raunchy comedies, heartfelt dramas, original music, pop culture commentary, feature films, news, politics, and socially relevant docuseries.
