Matthew Cieslak Obituary, Death – Matthew Cieslak, of Idaho, attempted to carjack a vehicle near 600 South and Interstate 15 in downtown Salt Lake City around 6 p.m. Saturday, according to police. After his first effort failed, Cieslak was able to carjack another vehicle, which he used to flee through the city as police tried to apprehend him, according to authorities.

Shots were fired between police and Cieslak, who was slain, in an industrial area around 220 S. Orange St., southeast of the Salt Lake City International Airport.
Cieslak was shot multiple times, according to authorities. Two of the officers who shot him have been placed on paid administrative leave.
According to authorities, no policemen were hurt in the shooting. As of Monday afternoon, no additional information about the shooting had been provided. The official obituary will be released by the family.
