In an accident that occurred at about 9:50 p.m. on I-71 in Berkshire Township, Interstate 71 in Delaware County on Monday night, one man was killed and another was wounded.
Matthew Allen of Brandon, Florida was traveling northbound on I-71 in a 2013 Hyundai Elantra when he veered off the road and into the median cable barrier, which reportedly this prompted his car to return to the northbound route and collide with a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia. Both cars were forced off the road and into the median cable barrier. The Freightliner then flipped over.
Allen was brought to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was subsequently declared deceased, according to the OHSP.
According to OSHP, the Freightliner’s driver was brought to Riverside Methodist Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
