In the Montérégie region of Quebec, a seven-year-old boy was killed on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, after being struck by a metal structure. According to reports, the 7-year-old died in a hospital as a result of injuries sustained following the tragic incident on Monday.
The incident near Massueville, roughly 90 kilometers from Montreal, was reported to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) between 2:30 and 2:45 on Monday, July 11, 2022. The boy was struck in the head by the metal object as he was playing with a buddy in the backyard of a house, according to reports. When his friend saw that he was still, he raced inside to make an emergency call.
The 7-year-old was rushed to the closest hospital and was then airlifted to Montreal’s Sainte-Justine Hospital, where he passed away from his wounds. The name of the 7-year-old victim was not made known at the time of this report.
SQ Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau said, “The metal thing appeared to be a massive structure capable of sustaining a load, but it wasn’t a tractor or some kind of utility vehicle.” He also added that “It doesn’t look like it was anything criminal or an act of negligence. Right now, this looks like an accident.” SQ has started an investigation into the incident has begun.
One of Massueville’s principal thoroughfares, rue Montcalm, in Montérégie is where the accident occurred. This village, which is situated between Montreal and Trois-Rivières on the south bank of the St. Lawrence River, is home to a small number of residents.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
