Death-Obituary : Mark Alan Sharp, 47, died Friday, March 18, 2022 after fighting the longest and hardest battle of his life.
“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always.” He posted this quote from Robin Williams on his Facebook page a while back. Those who knew and loved Mark understood this all too well.
He was born on February 26, 1975 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl M. Sharp in Portsmouth, VA, where he spent all of his life. He graduated from Western Branch High School where he made lifelong friends, many of whom shared his love of skateboarding, and spent days and nights at our childhood home on the ramp he and his friends built. After graduating high school, he joined MCV Construction Corporation where he worked for nearly 30 years.
We will always remember him as a loving father, brother, uncle and friend. He also was a man who loved a good meal. He loved a good cook, but also didn’t mind looking in your fridge to whip himself up something good while unconsciously whistling while he worked – a trait he got straight from our dad. And to that he’d say, “You know that’s right.”
He is survived by his pride and joy, two beautiful daughters, Alyssa and Ashlynn Sharp;
his sister, Karen Sharp Rountree and her husband, Brian A. Rountree; a brother, Paul Joseph Sharp; and nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
While we grieve his passing, we are trying to find peace in knowing he is no longer in pain, and has been reunited with our mother and father, while being welcomed by Jesus where he will suffer no more.
A Gathering of Remembrance will be held from 5:30 – 7 PM on Friday, April 1, 2022 at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel.
