Mark Sertterh Death – Mark Sertterh, a resident of Coralville, and Assistant Director at Shelter House Iowa City passed away on June 12, 2023. He was 46 years at the time of his death. He was announced dead by the Shelter House – Iowa City on Wednesday, June 14th, through a social media statement that read “We are devastated to share the news of Mark Sertterh’s death. Mark was a tireless advocate for Shelter House’s clients and guests, and we miss him with every fiber of our being. May he find rest.”

Who was Mark Sertterh?

Mark Michael Sertterh was born on February 8, 1977, in Albia, Iowa to Michael and Mary (Sutton) Sertterh. He obtained a degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Iowa in 1999 after graduating from Albia High School in 1995. Mark wed Jennie Hartgrave on June 10, 2006, and Jaryn and Riley were born into this union.

The family stayed in the Iowa City vicinity, where Mark first worked for Systems Unlimited before spending more than ten years as the assistant director at the Shelter House. Mark loved coaching his sons in a number of sports and had a wide range of interests, including golf, fishing, and tailgating. He was a devoted supporter of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. Mark was also an Iowa City Area Officials Association member and a long-time sports official.

Mark and his sons were frequently spotted supporting Jennie and the Hawks at Iowa women’s basketball games. Above all else, Mark was a loyal husband, father, and friend. He was Matt Sertterh and Michelle Casel’s brother. His cherished family will miss him terribly.

Mark Sertterh’s obituary and funeral arrangements

Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023, at First United Methodist Church in North Liberty. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. The interment will be at Ridgewood Cemetery. Attendees are free to dress casually in honor of Mark. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family c/o Jennie Sertterh in order to be allocated for Jaryn and Riley’s future educational endeavors.
