Humphrey was born on December 27, 1960, in Vancouver, British Columbia, to Sidney and Jack Humphrey. In 1967, he and his family moved to Toronto, Ontario, where his father worked as a producer for CBC Radio and Television. Humphrey moved to New York City after graduating from high school to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. Humphrey lived in New York for five years before returning to Toronto and eventually relocating to California.
He is best known for his role as Jake Antonelli in the Canadian television series E.N.G.
