Marciano Martinez Death – Police in Fox Lake say 56-year-old Fox Lake restaurant owner Mario Martinez-Benitez is currently hospitalized in critical condition after an altercation with his elder brother Marciano. Law enforcement agencies say Marciano, 63, died after he shot Mario Martinez three time at the restaurant they once owned together. Marciano was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident from an attempted murder-suicide. The incident happened at the Dockers restaurant located in the area of 33 West Grand Ave.
Around 1:05 p.m., Fox Lake Police responded to the Dockers restaurant at 33 West Grand Ave. on a report of gunfire. Marciano Martinez, 63, was found shot to death outside the eatery, according to Fox Lake Police Chief Jimmy Lee. According to a press statement issued by the Lake County Major Crime Task Force on Tuesday night, Mario Martinez-Benitez, 56, was also discovered outside the restaurant and transported to the hospital. Lee claimed that when Martinez-Benitez was critically injured, he was sent to the intensive care unit at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
A preliminary examination by the authorities revealed that the two brothers had previously owned the eatery together. Martinez’s older brother reportedly went to the eatery to settle their long-running feud face-to-face. According to investigators, the two brothers got into an altercation in the kitchen before the older brother pulled out a gun and shot his younger sibling. Although Martinez-Benitez managed to escape the restaurant, the older guy pursued him and kept firing, wounding the younger man many times. Next, he passed out cold.
Police say that before they arrived, Marciano Martinez fatally shot himself. Fox Lake Police are still heading the investigation, but evidence technicians from the Lake County Major Crime Task Force are helping them out.
