Who Is Marcus Sedgwick?
Marcus Sedgwick was a musician, illustrator, and writer from the United Kingdom. Novels such as Floodland and The Dark Horse are some of his works that have been published. He is the author of a number of children’s picture books, and he has also illustrated an adult-oriented book of folk tales and a collection of myths.
Marcus Sedgwick was born in the county of East Kent, which is located in England. Sedgwick worked as a bookseller at a children’s bookstore called Heffers before she began her career as a full-time novelist. Additionally, he held a position with the children’s publishing company Ragged Bear. His debut book, which was titled Floodland and was released in the year 2000, went on to win the Branford-Boase award for the finest first children’s novel that was published that year.
The novel Floodland follows the narrative of Zoe, a young woman who lives alone on an island that was formerly a part of England but was submerged as the sea level rose as a result of global warming. Even though a Horn Book reviewer mentioned that the characters in the book could have benefited from further development, the reviewer came to the conclusion that “this first novel is sufficiently taut, accessible, and swift moving to make it an effective cautionary tale.”
In 2013, he published Dark Satanic Mills, a graphic novel that was written in collaboration with his brother Julian Sedgwick and illustrated by John Higgins. According to Sarah McCarry, his book “The Ghosts of Heaven,” published in 2015, is a work of young adult fiction that is comprised of four chapters that are only tangentially connected to one another and combine to form a “intriguing” novel.
Marcus Sedgwick Obituary and funeral plans will be released by the family at a later date.
