As officers were responding, additional 9-1-1 calls came in reporting shots fired and a shooting victim at the location. Officers arrived at a chaotic scene with people leaving the parking lot and scene. Officers located an 18- year-old male in front of the business suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The male was transported to nearby St. Agnes Hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Homicide detectives responded and began their investigation. Based upon the information we have at this time, a physical altercation began between two groups of patrons inside the Bowlero. The conflict continued outside of the establishment, where the shooting took place.
This investigation is still in its initial stages, however we have determined that this is an isolated incident and is gang related.
There were initial 9-1-1 reports that this was an “active shooter” situation occurring inside the business. This incident was not an “active shooter” and it did not occur inside the business.
“We want to assure our community that is was an isolated incident and we are doing everything we can to not only investigate the crime, but to deter any retaliation. Your Police Department is increasing our patrol presence throughout the weekend at locations where our community gathers.
Although the frequency of violent crime has been dramatically reduced during the past two months, we continue to make public safety our number one priority. We will not stand for this type of violence in our community.” Chief Paco Balderrama
