According to reports, Luke Kates affectionately known to many as ‘Daddy’ passed away from injuries sustained in the crash. No further information was mentioned. Luke was born in Oak Grove, Missouri and lived in Lees Summit, Missouri, according to his Facebook profile. He was happily married to Karina Kates. Luke was a man with a strong will and a quick wit, but many would argue that the most memorable part of him was his big heart. He was always the first to shed a sentimental tear. Luke was the type of person who would help others behind the scenes, without expecting anything in return.

According to court documents filed today, Lee’s Summit police were sent to a Fairfield Inn in Lee’s Summit after someone said a car hit a person in the hotel parking lot. The victim had been hit by a car and then pushed into a building, the police found when they looked into what happened.
The car hit the building as well. The victim was taken to the hospital, but she later died from her wounds. The investigation found that the victim was sitting on the parking lot wall when she was hit by the defendant’s car. Tests of her breath and other things showed that she had been driving while drunk. Prosecutors requested a $100,000 secured bond.
