On Tuesday, August 17, 2010, Colony High School was placed under lockdown for two hours as a result of an allegation that someone on the premises had a gun. Police from Ontario scoured the school but found no weapons. Around 6:30 a.m., an unidentified caller called the police to report sighting a pistol. The caller identified the potential owner of the weapon by name. They may have seen a handgun handle in someone’s waistline on campus, according to police Sgt. Jim Vandever.
According to Vandever, police examined at least one individual on campus with a similar first name, but they were unable to uncover any firearms. At 8:24 a.m., police and school administrators let students onto the campus following a search of the rest of the building. During the zero time, when the lockdown occurred, hundreds of pupils were prevented from attending class.
Colony High Principal Michelle Boyette reported that only marching band members were present at school during the zero period. The marching band has 65 pupils in it. Colony High is located at 3850 E. Riverside Drive and has roughly 2,300 pupils. If there was a person with a gun, Boyette said she is confident that police will find the person the caller mentioned.
