Franklin Regional Middle School mourn
Larry Silvestri is the son of June (Taylor) and Frank Silvestri, who passed away before Larry was born. Larry served as both the Director of the Franklin Regional Middle School Band and the Assistant Director of the Franklin Regional Senior High School Band for a combined 35 years. Kevin Pollock, a long-time friend of his who also served as Band Director at Franklin Regional, helped the school’s band earn a reputation for being among the most talented in the region.
As the director of the band at the middle school, he oversaw their success at every competition they entered. After Kevin’s retirement as High School Director, Larry took over the position, which was something he had always wished he could do. Because of his sickness, Larry was only able to serve as director for a brief period of time before he had to step down.
Throughout the entirety of his career, it was never only about the music; rather, the focus was mostly on his pupils. It was a love-filled connection shared by both parties. He was a mentor to his students not only in the realm of music but also in other aspects of life. The lives of so many of his band kids will ensure that his legacy will live on. Despite this, he was able to devote his time and energy to his family. His cherished children, Grant and Kendyl, were his first priority throughout his entire life.
On Friday, April 28, visitors will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bash-Nied-Jobe Funeral Home, which is located at 152 Abbe Place in Delmont (724-468-8381). The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 10 AM at St. Vincent Basilica, which is located at 300 Fraser Purchase Road in Latrobe. The funeral service will then proceed to the Twin Valley Memorial Park in Delmont for the interment.
