He was announced dead by his family in a statement released on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, on his Facebook account. “The family of Larry Reid regrets to inform the community he loved so dearly of his passing. At this time the family requests privacy.”

Larry Reid passed away following a courageous battle an undisclosed health issues. The news of his illness was announced by the family on Sunday, September 10th through his social media account. “Hello everybody! We want to make you aware that Larry is currently taking a time of leave from the radio station due to illness. At this time the family requests privacy so that Larry can heal and get his rest. We ask that you keep Larry, his wife, Jo Jarrell Reid, and their family in your prayers. God is good! We appreciate and love you all!”

Who was Larry Reid?

Larry D. Reid was a native of Concord, North Carolina, and a longtime radio host in Asheboro where he dedicated years to helping people in the community. He went to Central Cabarrus High and graduated from Western Carolina University in 1986 where he was a member of the WCU Marching Band. Larry was a Station Manager at South Triad Broadcasting Corporation.

He collaborated with various organizations, including Habitat for Humanity and United Way. Additionally, he is a trustee at Randolph Community College. Reid had a strong faith in Christ. Larry prioritizes Jesus and is an example of that love in Christ. Reid received various honors over the years for his charitable work, including three Asheboro Citizen of the Year awards. Reid frequently served as the event’s host. He stood out among others. He was sincere, encouraging, and nice. a genuine leader in many aspects.

He was interested in everything that was happening in and around Asheboro. He was and still is a citizen of this county, not just a DJ or station manager.
