UPDATE: Lamar University Shooting Today – Following the evacuation of the Lamar Institute of Technology campus due to a hoax involving a shooting, students at the school have been informed that the remainder of Thursday’s classes will not be held. The Lamar Institute of Technology and the Montagne Center both received hoax calls about active shooters on Thursday morning, which prompted local law police to conduct campus sweeps at both locations.
According to the police department, the Beaumont Police Department received a call just before 10:20 a.m. stating that a person with an AR-style rifle was entering the Information Technology department at Lamar Institute of Technology. Officers searched every building on the campus, but they did not locate any firearms.
PREVIOUSLY: Multipe enforcement agencies and emergency crews are responding to a shooting situation in Beaumont, Texas on Thursday, April 13th, 2023. The Beaumont Police Department says that officers were sent to Lamar University located at 4400 S M L King Jr Pkwy, Beaumont, Texas after reports of a shooting and active shooter at the University. At the time this report was made, it was not clear if there was a shooting or active shooter at the school campus.
At the time this article was written, there had been no arrests and no description of the shooter had been made public. People are asked to stay away from the area while authorities look into what happened. There have been a series of shootings and active shooter hoax all over the state and this happens to be one of them.
Lamar University is aware of a communication received regarding the Lamar Institute of Technology campus. Lamar University PD responded in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies. It has been determined there is no credible threat to Lamar University.

LIT was formerly a part of Lamar University but became a separate institution when the university joined the Texas State University System in 1995.
