Kraig Kelican Accident – Three people were injured following a fatal 4-car, chain-reaction accident that happened on Wednesday morning on Interstate 66. One of the three victims has been identified as Fauquier High School Principal Kraig Kelican. According to school division officials and Virginia State Police, 62-year-old Kraig Kelican was transported via helicopter to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Two other people were transported from the crash via ambulance for minor injuries.
How did the crash happen?
The accident took place on Wednesday, September 6th, at 6:40 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-66, near the 23-mile marker. Three vehicles were stationary due to heavy traffic when a fourth vehicle failed to stop in time, causing a rear-end collision with one of the stationary vehicles. This initial collision triggered a series of subsequent crashes. It remains unclear which vehicle Kelican was traveling in, as per Coffey’s statement.
The school division sent a note home to Fauquier High School families on Wednesday, telling them that Kelican had been in a crash that morning.
“We can confirm that Mr. Kelican was flown to the hospital for medical treatment, but we do not know the extent of his injuries,” the note said. “We kindly ask that you keep Mr. Kelican in your thoughts and prayers.” Attempts to reach members of Kelican’s family were not immediately successful Wednesday evening.
