The owner of the world-famous Knaus Berry Farm, Rachel Knaus Grafe, was brutally attacked and nearly killed in her house on Friday evening, and her son has been arrested. A senior law enforcement source briefed on the event reported on Saturday that 40-year-old Travis Grafe allegedly struck his mother with a flashlight. After allegedly beating his mother, he allegedly assaulted Herbert, his father. The official stated, “He demanded money from them and then thrashed them both.”

The sad incident occurred at the family’s residence in the 15700 block of SW 248th Street in Redlands around 6 p.m. The official stated that Rachel, 66, was listed in critical condition after being airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. According to the official, Herbert’s injuries were less severe, and he is expected to make a full recovery. Travis Grafe allegedly assaulted his parents before fleeing the Homestead home adjacent to their farm and shop.

“He fled in a golf cart to a neighbor’s house, where he announced, ‘I just murdered my mother,'” according to a law enforcement source. According to the official, the neighbor called the police, who apprehended Grafe without incident. Grafe was placed into the county jail early Saturday morning on charges of attempted murder, aggravated violence, and attempted strong-arm robbery.

Rachel Knaus Grafe, who owns the nearby Knaus Berry Farm, was brutally attacked and almost killed in her home last night. Her son Travis was arrested for the attack. Travis Grafe, who is 40 years old, is said to have hit both his mother and father with a flashlight. The mom was hit harder. Rachel, who is 66 years old, was flown to Jackson Memorial Hospital and is said to be in critical condition. Travis Grafe was charged with :

  • 1 count of premeditated attempted murder
  • 2 counts of aggravated battery
  • 1 count of attempted strongarm robbery.
