Kiara Agnew Death – A woman has died at the Riviera Maya resort hotel in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Kiara Agnew from Plaster Rock, New Brunswick. According to reports, the 23-year-old woman and her boyfriend, 26-year-old Ryan Friesen of Dawson Creek, BC, went on a vacation at the Riviera Maya resort hotel in Playa del Carmen, Mexico on March 2nd. On March 3, police were called to the property’s Princess Hotel, where a woman was found dead.
What happened to Kiara Agnew?
According to SSP Solidaridad, police from the Secretariat of Public Security arrested Friesen after Agnew passed away with possible signs of violence in a hotel in the Xcalacoco neighbourhood. Officers then went to the Princess Hotel, where a worker pointed out Agnew’s boyfriend, Friesen, who had apparent blood stains on his clothes and swelling on his hands, as well as a woman lying face up on the ground with visible injuries and blood stains.
According to Roberts, the couple had been dating for about a year. Friesen is a Dawson Creek Canucks hockey player in the North Peace Hockey League. Before her death, Agnew, who moved to British Columbia when she was 14, worked at the Lake View Credit Union in Dawson Creek. On March 11, she would have turned 24.

A GoFundMe page has been established by Tanya Roberts of Grand Falls, New Brunswick. The money raised through this effort will go to the family to help with the funeral expenses. The page “Help bring Kiara Agnew Home” has raised CAD 13,416 of the $10,000 goal. “We are raising money for costs associated with bringing our girl home, being told it will be at least 10,000. Please donate and/or share. Help bring our girl home to her mom and dad.”
