Michael Schoener, a former officer with the Dedham Police Department, was sentenced to state prison on Thursday. His sentencing came more than four years after he was found guilty of acting as an accessory before the fact in the kidnapping and murder of James Robertson, a resident of Avon. On January 1, 2014, James Feeney and Scott Robertson, posing as police officers, kidnapped Robertson and held him for ransom. Feeney and Robertson are both named Robertson.

Before they kidnapped Robertson, Schoener provided the two guys with information about Robertson as well as his police badge, holster, and handcuffs. Nearly two years after his disappearance, Robertson’s body was discovered in the forests of Upton.

In 2019, Schoener was found guilty, but he challenged the verdict, which temporarily halted the execution of his sentence. The Supreme Judicial Court upheld his conviction at the end of the previous month. Now he faces a prison sentence of between six and nine years.
