Two people have been arrested after the body of a missing Laurens, South Carolina woman was discovered along Mangum School Road in a rural area just south of the state line. However, according to investigators, there was evidence that the crime occurred in Union County, North Carolina prior to the corpse being dumped 20 feet off the side of the road.
Sunday, the Union County Sheriff’s Office received information that 18-year-old Kierstyn Makennah Williamson was possibly at a residence on Bethpage Lane in Monroe. The family of Williamson reported her missing to the Laurens Police Department on June 30 after they were unable to contact her. Tuesday, Sheriff Eddie Cathey of Union County confirmed Williamson’s passing. Two individuals were arrested in relation to the dreadful discovery. In this case, Joshua Newton, 25 years old, was charged with first-degree homicide and obstruction of justice.
Deputies also apprehended Victoria Smith, age 22. She was charged with obstruction of justice and complicity in a crime. Newton and Smith co-habited Bethpage Lane. Both perpetrators are currently in custody. Lieutenant James Maye, the Union County Sheriff’s Office’s public information officer, stated that Williamson and Newton met online approximately thirty days prior to the homicide.
According to him, detectives on the case discovered Newton and Williamson met for the first time when Newton took her up from her workplace on Friday night. He stated that the medical examiner is determining the cause of death and a timeline. The State Bureau of Investigation of North Carolina is assisting with the investigation.
