Katherine Adele “Kat” Westbrook Charleston – On March 8, 2022, Katherine Adele (“Kat”) Westbrook was called home to God at age 28 after an accidental fall that cut short a life full of promise. She used her magnificent singing voice in the choir and as the female lead in the school musical, Bye Bye Birdie. Katherine went on to Bishop England High School, graduating in the National Honor Society, and playing on the two-time state champion varsity volleyball team.

Katherine moved to Boston to pursue her passions for creative writing and volleyball at Emerson College, where she played in the NCAA tournament. Returning to South Carolina, Katherine interned at the Richardson Patrick Westbrook & Brickman law firm before enrolling in the Charleston School of Law, where she was a second year student. At CSOL, Katherine was President of the Alliance for Equality and the Law Democrats, and a member of the Dean’s Diversity Counsel, and the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. While at CSOL, she was privileged to receive a summer fellowship at Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services, serving the most needy in society.

She was looking forward to a life of service in the law. Katherine was vibrant, witty and accomplished. She persevered through life’s challenges. She loved her family and friends, and had a special place in her heart for her pet ferret, Boris. Katherine is survived by her parents, Edward James and Liesl Hughes Westbrook; her brothers, Edward Thomas Westbrook and Michael Thomas Westbrook; her grandparents, Thomas and Beverly Hughes; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Christ Our King Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant.
