Last week, on March 5 the creator of Waves Coffee House, Kami Rahmati died in a car accident in Pitt Meadows ditch.A 2021 Lexus was discovered upside down in a ditch by BC Hydro workers on March 5, 2022, according to Cpl. Julie Klaussner of the Ridge Meadows RCMP.
Integrated Collision Analysis Reconstruction Services (ICARS) was called out to help Ridge Meadows RCMP with the investigation, she added.
Kami, an Iranian Kurd, arrived in Canada in 1990 with his wife and three-year-old son. He did everything from dishwashing to taxi driving until buying Robin’s Donuts in Manitoba in 1996.
In 2005, Kami opened the first Waves. Unsure if his father always intended to expand his firm, Kayvan the president of Waves Coffe house knows he refused to sell it. But when the first franchise offer arrived, Kami took it. The coffee franchise now has 27 sites in BC and Alberta, including one in Pitt Meadows, and hopes to open six to eight more in the next few years.
He loved soccer as much as he liked his job. He ran a 55+ soccer league with 80 teams. With all this accomplishment, Kami didn’t keep it all to himself, said Kayvan.
Kayvan stated he learned a lot from his father, one of which was to constantly greet people.
She turned 60 on March 21. His wife Asrin, daughters Krystal and Kiara, and son Kayvan survive him.
The RCMP and the family are still investigating the cause of the crash.
